We are 2 today (6th March) - and have found our booties and are raring to go! To launch a business and create a brand that speaks about real food, taste and values, and to be taken seriously, is a big reason to celebrate.

Our cake today shall be very large, very large indeed, and those 2 candles represent 2 years of sheer hard work, determination and fun along the way. I hope it is chocolate!!!

    Lot of Love

Susie (with a party hat on!) Hip Hip Hoooooray

And the rest of the motley crew who are threatening to scoff the cake before I get a look in!

The team at Plum are very proud of Susie this week. On Wednesday we went to London for the finals of the Startups Awards 2007. Plum were shortlisted for two awards, Product of the Year and Women in Business. The judges believed that Susie epitomises women in business and she sucessfully scooped the Women in Business award, which is now proudly displayed in our boardroom. It was also lovely to mingle with the other hardworking entrepreneurs and we particularly would like to congratulate Fraser Doherty of Super Jam for winning Young Entrepreneur of the Year with his scrummy ’super fruit’ jams……

It’s something that we already believed at Plum HQ, but scientists who led the £12 million project into organic food, have reported that organic food is more nutritious than ordinary produce, and contains higher quantities of antioxidants which help ward off heart disease and cancer!

The scientists, and the Plum family, hope that the evidence will help persuade the Government to recommend organic produce and stop advising that eating it is merely a “lifestyle choice”.

Among the reports key findings, potatoes and carrots were among the organic produce found to be higher in vitamin C than their chemically-farmed counterparts.

Also higher levels of minerals and antioxidants were found in organically- farmed spinach and red cabbage, all of these are already key ingredients in our yummy Plum recipes!

“It’s head and shoulders above the rest in terms of nutrients” This quote came from an article titled “Battle of the Baby Foods” in the Sunday Times Style Magazine from August in an article written by Lydia Slater who was talking about modern motherhood and the social minefield that feeding your baby causes today. To Puree or not? Shop-bought or home-made?

We were delighted to read Dr Verkerk’s quote and even more so to find out that if he is off on a long journey with his six children he has been known to eat a pot of Plum himself! To read the full article please click here
