Q. Are plastic pots safe?

A.  We have gone to great lengths to identify plastic pots that are wholly in-line with our brief - this means that they have to be 100% safe in every respect. All our materials are approved and tested and there is absolutely no danger of any chemicals contaminating the contents. Although recycling schemes vary depending on what area of the country you live in, our pots are designed to be 100% recyclable and can be chipped for re-moulding into guttering for example.

Q. Can I freeze any leftovers?

A.  Of course you can! All our recipes have to be treated as fresh once opened and this also means freezing them! We recommend that you freeze within 24 hours of opening, and to pop then into a freezer safe tub. If you have just started weaning you could dispense one of our pots into little ice cube trays as to avoid waste, and have the perfect amount for your little one!

Q. How do you achieve such a long shelf life without preservatives?

A.  There are indeed no preservatives in the Plum Baby range. The steam method of cooking is done under pressure and this, together with the airtight seal gives Plum Baby pots and pouches a 12-month shelf life without the need for any additives. Once opened, of course, treat the contents of the pot as fresh, store in the fridge and use within 2 days for our 4 months plus range or 24 hours for our 7 and 10 months plus.

Q. How much sugar does Plum Baby contain?

A.  Unlike some baby food brands on the market, there is no added sugar in Plum Baby. The sugar content varies from product to product depending on the amount of natural sugars present in the fruit and vegetables.

Q. Is Plum Baby safe for travelling?

A.  Plum Baby can be taken anywhere with you - that's the advantage of our resealable pots and pouches. If you are travelling on an aeroplane you will be unable to take the pots in your hand luggage, unless you open and try yourself for customs. Sadly this is because we don't have the weight stated on our pots. But the pouches are fine and at 100g meet the maximum liquid limit. However you can pop them in your suitcase, but please be aware that they should be treated as fragiles and wrapped up in a carrier bag just in case it gets bashed around too much.

Q. Where can I buy your products online?

A.  We have very recently opened our very own online shop - click here to have a look. At this stage though we are unable to deliver to any overseas address, including the Republic of Ireland. Please be assured that we are working very hard to resolve this though.

About our ingredients

Talk to us about our ingredients

Q. Where do the ingredients come from?

A.  All ingredients are organic, responsibly sourced and of the highest possible quality. They are also all 'Baby Grade' which means they have had to pass stringent quality checks. We source ingredients from relevant countries - for example, our mangoes are from India, bananas are from Ecuador and our quinoa is from Bolivia. All our ingredients are shipped to our manufacturer and not air-freighted to save on carbon emissions.

Q. Why is water so high up the list of ingredients in some recipes?

A.  Water is a necessary part of the cooking process in Plum Baby recipes. Quinoa in particular absorbs a lot of water as it cooks and softens. Other ingredients such as spinach and sweet corn also absorb water when they are cooked. Without this cooking water, the products would have an unappealing grainy, solid texture. Parents can rest assured that no Plum Baby recipe is 'diluted' with water.

Q. Is Plum Baby anything to do with Plum organics in the US?

A.  Plum Baby customers can continue to feel completely reassured about the safety and appeal of Plum Baby products as Plum Baby is a totally separate UK-based firm, with its own unique product range and separate European suppliers and manufacturers. It is in no way affiliated with the US firm Plum Organics which sells their products only in the US.

Plum Baby’s pouches and pots have been designed with the complete safety of babies in mind.

Anyone concerned over the US product recall - which is in no way associated with Plum Baby products - should refer to their website: www.plumorganics.com

For further information on Plum Baby in the UK please visit our site www.plum-baby.co.uk or speak to us on 0845 389 0061.

Q. What does Plum Baby mean when it says it strives to be an ethical business...

A.  We make every effort to make responsible choices wherever we possibly can - including within our own office environment. We serve Fairtrade and organic tea and coffee in our offices, have a recycling policy relating to paper, cardboard, plastic, cans and glass and have even transferred our telecommunications to the UK's only ethical telephone company, The Phone Co-operative. We also offset the CO2 emissions created during the transportation of our products via The Carbon Neutral Company by paying for the planting of native trees.

Q. Where do you make Plum Baby?

A.  We use specialist food manufacturers who have the skills and equipment to allow us to produce a range of foods with various flavours and textures. They are located in the UK, France and Germany and to reduce food miles grains, vegetables and meat are sourced locally to the manufacturing site. We ensure that all our ingredients and processes meet rigorous UK and EU standards.

Q. Why is Plum Baby so expensive?

A.  At Plum Baby we use the highest quality raw ingredients and we include more of the more expensive ingredients in our recipes. For example, our Mango and Banana recipe contains 49% mango (whereas some other fruit purees described as containing mango contain only 8% mango). We don't use fillers or bulking ingredients, only the finest, responsibly sourced raw ingredients. Plum Baby's value reflects in the quality and volume of raw materials used.
